After my delicious meal at Man Mano, I was told Bathers in Cheung Sha was also a Woolly Pig restaurant and they also had the amazing beef NSW menu, but this time in the form of a steak sandwich and a juicy burger, so with a gap in my work schedule, I hopped on the 11 bus from Tung Chung bus station and went for an explore.
Cheung Sha is a beautiful spot. Unlike other beach areas on Lantau, Cheung Sha boasts Hong Kong’s longest white sandy beach at over 3kms and has fantastic amenities for a day at the beach, like the Lantau Grocer and a row of great restaurants, which other beaches on Lantau lack.
One of the better ones is Bathers. It’s the first restaurant you come to after hopping off the bus just before the fire station. You’ll need to walk down a steep slope and around to the right and there it is, with wide open and unobstructed views of South Lantau’s beautiful coastline. Bathers is a world away from the hustle and bustle of CityGate mall. Once you sit down with a cold drink you soon lose yourself in the views and don’t want to leave.
I met up for lunch today with my friend Jiwon, founder of the excellent Flow With Me yoga wear and accessories website and Cheung Sha resident. The sun was starting to shine after weeks of grey and made Bathers the perfect spot for lunch.
We decided, having tried the amazing Aussie beef at Man Mano, to order the Bindaree ribeye steak sandwich and Rangers Valley Wagyu burger . The steak sandwich was drizzled with coleslaw and fresh salad and was wrapped up in a delicious sourdough bread blanket. The burger had the intense and deep flavour of Wagyu beef and crispy bacon and was delicious. There was a side pot of pesto sauce that went really well with the burger, and fries! The surprising star of the show was a chili broccoli side dish. I could have eaten that all day if I wasn’t so full from the burger!
The restaurant allows you to take away as well as as eat in, so you can climb up from your beach mat when you get hungry, grab a tasty lunch, and then enjoy it on the beach to save you carrying a picnic on the bus. The outside is also pet-friendly should you want to treat your pup to a tasty lunch too!
Bathers has a nice chilled beach vibe, with friendly and attentive service and I’d definitely make it my dining spot when visiting Cheung Cha.
To get there:
Bus: Number 11 or 23 bus from Tung Chung bus terminus. Hop off just before the fire station.
Taxi: Ask for Lower Cheung Sha Beach (There is also an Upper Cheung Sha Beach but there’s nothing to eat there!)
