Peng Chau

Peng Chau is a cute little island sitting off the coast of Lantau Island between Discovery Bay and Hong Kong Island. Peng Chau has a lovely creative vibe, with cute cafes (check out Ho Ho Kitchen) and art studios. One such studio has created a bonkers garden, presumably from items found abandoned around the island.

There is a nice beach to the east of the island, but there aren’t any places to eat or drink there, so buy what you need from the little convenience stores on the main high street before you settle in.

If you take a walk left out of the ferry and carry on around the coastline, you will cross a bridge.

Take a sharp right at the end of the bridge and you’ll find some rocks to climb on which offer great views of Hong Kong and Lantau.

We visited Peng Chau on a weekday and a lot of the shops and restaurants were closed so I recommend visiting on a weekend.

You can get to Peng Chau via ferry from Central or Discovery Bay. You can view the timetables here. The ferry pier in Discovery Bay is about a 10-minute walk from the bus station so make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to catch the ferry. Ferries take Octopus card on boarding.
